Music theatre by McCrae, Zaitev, Schönijahn & Piroschik in co-production with HELLERAU – European Center for the Arts (2023–2025)
In THE GREAT GRAND OTHER, three performers explore how experiences and traumas of war are passed down through generations.
What did our parents and (great-)grandparents not tell us? What were they no longer able to tell? How reliable is what they did tell? And how do their experiences of war continue to resonate within us?
Between scenic concert, immersive installation, and performance, a poetic–musical search unfolds, beginning from a place of absence. It emerges where language falters, the voice fails, and stories fall silent. THE GREAT GRAND OTHER attempts to translate the immaterial legacies of war into images, texts, sounds, and movement.
What traces has the war left in our families and within ourselves? What do we keep silent about, and why? And how can we find our own voice?
THE GREAT GRAND OTHER invites us to enter this process of transformation together, to explore the silences within our family stories, and to search for words for the unspeakable.
